STEM THE ART visited OCEAA in September to teach about the relations of music and science! Students learned about pitch (short wavelengths vs. long wavelengths) and how sound travels through our ear and to our brain. Then, the students made straw pan flutes to demonstrate their knowledge! Sound traveled through the shorter straws quicker, creating shorter wavelengths and a higher pitch. The opposite occurred with the longer straws: sound traveled at a slower rate, causing longer wavelengths and a lower pitch.
